Bike and Build is exactly that, an organization dedicated to bike and building. The cause of bike and build is affordable housing. Each year, B&B sends 8 groups of roughly 30 young individuals across country all raising money for affordable housing. In the 8 seasons since their creation, B&B has donated over 3.3 million dollars and contributed thousands of working hours to affordable housing agencies! Each individual that participates in B&B must raise $4500 before the beginning of the trip. As needed, portions of this go to necessities such as chase vehicles, some accommodations, etc. however much of the money raised goes directly to the cause. Bike and Build is making a very real difference in affordable housing for all Americans. Last summer alone participants raised a whopping $605,000!
During the trip participants spend the majority of each day biking anywhere from 42 to 116 miles. Also participants will spend time making presentations and collecting donations for the cause, as well as the much anticipated build days. Accommodations can include churches, schools, YMCAs, or even just a campground. Participants work together each day to accomplish their goal.
Prior to each trip, in addition to raising $4500, each rider must give 10 "sweat equity" hours, working with an affordable housing agency such as Habitat for Humanity.
